Physical Description
The Virent Gerbilius (Green Squirrel) is a small pesky squirrel. Its upperparts are usually hairy unless the squirrel was recently shaved. The squirrel ranges in color from dark olive green to just the normal kind of green. Its underparts are usually hairy too depending on age and when the squirrel hit puberty. The ears are unusually big for a rodent of this size, and with long tufts. Most of the other cute little forest animals make fun of the green squirrels ears, making them quite self conscience about themselves. According to some reports, during the summer months the forelegs and feet can be rather pale due to unsightly tan lines.
The Green Squirrel can be told apart from most other squirrels of this region by its short, stubby tail and the fact that it knows how to drive automobiles and other motorized vehicles. It can be told apart from Sciurus richmondi and Sciurus granatensis by its green, not brown, color and by its frequent consumption of soda pop.
Habitat:
The green squirrel is found in urban and suburban mountainous regions usually near a 7-11 or other convinence stores that have fountain drinks. The lack of an opposable thumb renders the squirrel quite helpless when it comes to opening cans, forcing the squirrel to reside in these urban areas.
Food Habits
Virent Gerbilius diet on seeds, figs, fungi, acorns, berries, fruit, soda pop, foliage and any free food that it can get its paws on. Analysis of green squirrel diets have shown that it lives off of food that contains almost no nutritional value whatsoever, puzzling scientists on how it survives. Most of the time it is an arboreal feeder ( eats in the trees ), but it has been seen in common fast food chains such as Wendy's eating Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers and other items off the .99 cent value menu.
Behavior
The squirrel is Dumbual, when not climbing trees it spends most of its time in front of a computer screen and sometimes moving to the TV Screen to channel surf. Compared with other Sciurus Gerbilius, the green squirrel is somewhat active and can be seen crawling along small branches. It does, however, seem to prefer moving on the larger branches, tree trunks, and riding shotgun.
Because of its funny looking ears, the squirrel is rarely seen in public unless wearing a hat or baseball cap. Despite their Dumbo complex, the green squirrel is a social animal and is sometimes found in noisy groups and night clubs. Their call can be high-pitched like a bird's trill, but more frequently the call consists of a low pitched "dude" or "man". Nests are made in tree trunks or formed out of leaves and twigs. But due to the fact that those nests are really quite uncomfortable and get cold during the winter months, quite often they can be found in apartments complexes and other overpriced rentals.
